CMSCAN as an NT/OpenInventor Testbed

The CMS experiment is planning to make the transition from a traditional procedural programming style to an object oriented style in the near future. We decided that to translate the existing event display program [4, 3] to an OO paradigm without also changing the underlying graphics program would be ill-advised and that we needed some experience with the process in advance of the experiment as a whole. We instead planned to keep the part of CMSCAN Classic devoted to detector modeling and event generation as part of a testbed where we would be able to try different approaches.
